*History:

Once upon a time in the magical land of Japan, there was a project that the law enforcement was working on in secret: a robotic police force that would work alongside humans. It was going well until a child named Yuuta snuck inside, and started associating himself with the robot. Because of this child, the robot began to have emotions, reactions that weren't programmed into him. In other words, this man-made robot gained a soul. Pretty cool, huh? Well the law enforcement didn't think so and tried to remove it. Robot said no, and it was actually because of the boy's interaction that Deckerd, the robot in question, was able to make the right call in the field. Basically, robots with souls are better than without. It was dubbed 'Super AI' and life was good for Yuuta and Deckerd.

However, it was too risky to put into every robot. So Deckerd was a special little snowflake when the Build team was made. The Build Team were a series of three robots made after Deckerd, to serve as partners on his own little police force. However, since they didn't have the same Super AI that Deckerd had, they were...literally robotic. These guys just don't learn, do they? It took another law breaking citizen who somehow had access to things he shouldn't in order to get the Build Team to have Super A.I., and thus, their own personalities. They were allowed to choose their own names, and Power Joe picked his because...well, it probably sounded cool.

And it really did sound cool.

So enter Power Joe, the power shovel of the Build Team. And automatically he's being an upstanding member of Brave Police by sneaking out and rollin' down the street looking at sparrows and bull terriers. He spots Yuuta and insists he drive him to school. Against his will. What a stellar cop. But it's a good thing! Because there's an assassin who's been hired to take out Yuuta, and it's because of Power Joe's interference that the first assassination attempt fails. Even if Yuuta didn't like it. The kids at Yuuta's school seem to be pretty impressed with Power Joe at first, saying it's pretty cool that Yuuta can command PJ around on a whim. When the boy says back off, he backs off. Stuff like that. Enter the assassin's second attempt at killing Yuuta, but the schoolkids are so excited over Power Joe that they push him into stepping on the robot sent to kill, thus making attempt #2 fail.

It's just not the assassin's day.

But later it turns out that Power Joe is listening in on Yuuta's class and making comments about how easy it is to be a robot and have everything fed to you, while humans have to actually learn. This, you know, upsets the teacher for some reason, and ends up with Yuuta freaking out at Power Joe and asking him to leave. Realizing he did something wrong, PJ complies and goes to wait for Yuuta elsewhere. WORST TIMING EVER. Assassination attempt #3 comes and the assassin LITERALLY has a giant robot that looks like some giant Edward Scissorhands READY TO KILL THIS KID. You'd think by now he could succeed right? Nope. Power Joe realized something was wrong and went to check on Yuuta, bringing Deckerd with. The Assassin was prepared for this, and turned to attemp #4. Yes. He's...he's that prepared okay. #4 was a giant robot that almost proved to be too much for the two, but with a little sneaky planning and teamwork, Deckerd and Power Joe were able to defeat it. And...the guy was finally arrested. All in all, Yuuta found promise in the Build Team member and the students loved him from that day forward.

And then there were a bunch of silly robotic shenanigans, ranging from ninjas to dinosaurs. It was epic.

But then Saejima, the head of the division, comes up with a plan! Why not combine the members of the Build Team together to make a super giant robot? Since Deckerd was able to combine with his van to gain a larger form to fight, it only seemed fair to let the Build Team have the same. So he devised a way for them to combine to also make a large robot! Because the larger the robot, the more cool it is. And slap a tiger face on there because why not. It was good in theory, but the Build Team couldn't seem to sync up their motions to form the Build Tiger.

Thankfully, they each had something they could focus on, something to protect. For Power Joe, it was the kids from the school that he'd gained the adoration of. And just in time too, because there was something with a space elevator going on and it was falling from orbit. Deckerd was doing his best to destroy it in the atmosphere, but obviously he needed some help. Thankfully, Build Tiger was a success this time, and it helped Deckerd take care of the issue like it was tissue paper. Build Team were stronger than ever now.

Or was it? As strong as Build Tiger was, Saejima took it one step further. He wanted Build Tiger to have the power of flight. So what did he do? Make a new member for the Brave Police of course! This one was a little bit smaller than the others, but he brought something very important to the table. Wings. The only problem? He was a little overconfident, and the Build Team had a little trouble adjusting to him. To be frank, he was a child. An overconfident child. And it didn't help that when they tried to form Super Build Tiger (yeah, Saejima thought that one up. Isn't he brilliant) it would all fall apart because Drill Boy wasn't fitting in well.

It took a feelings talk, as well as Drill Boy admitting that he needed help, because Yuuta had been captured by underground bug people (No, I'm not making this up). They were being mind controlled by a guy who wanted...what else, World domination. Through Drill Boy's desperation to save Yuuta and the Build Team's worry for the boy, they worked together to form Super Build Tiger, which was basically a powered-up Build Tiger that could actually fly now. Yeah, it's as cool as it sounds. Four robots combined into one to make a super mecha to fight alongside Deckerd.

And then there were funny times with a panda that apparently tried to 'take over' Japan (Seriously, not making this up), and more robotic shenanigans, mostly monsters-of-the-week and the like.

That is, until Victim decided to come into play. He made two robots named Chieftains that were rumored to be able to kill the Brave Police. And you know what? They succeeded. They actually killed Deckerd and it was the worst moment I've ever experienced while watching a robot show I swear to God. I guess Duke was there too it was his debut episode but everything was so sad. Power Joe obviously didn't take this well, because Deckerd was their first friend, and meant everything to the Brave Police. They couldn't function without Deckerd there. What's even worse is, Duke seemed to be a 'replacement', which made some unsettling feelings transpire from the entire team.

But with some help, a new body for Deckerd was made, since his Super A.I. was left intact, and they attempted to deliver it. Deckerd had returned and worked together with Duke to take down the Chieftain duo. EVERYTHING WAS HAPPY. NO ONE DIED FOR REAL AND I WAS SO GLAD WHEN THIS LITTLE ARC WAS OVER.

And then one day, Power Joe found true love. Sort of. There were a pair of female villains called the Bubble Gum Sisters, who were video game masters. But growing bored of gaming, they decided to take up villainy, using their tech experience to mess with the Brave Police's heads. Why? Because they had nothing better to do, and wanted to see if the Brave Police were capable of real feelings. So while Power Joe was late for an investigation with the other BPs, he ran into a nurse robot named Lua, who he quickly made friends with and developed a crush on. She was, after all, beautiful, and wished to be his friend.

However, Power Joe is out helping the city, he starts seeing his friends as monsters, and begins to attack them, like in some virtual reality. It takes all of them to hold him down, and at the last minute, PJ starts to see them as...them, stopping his attack. But the Bubble Gum Sisters weren't done just yet. They really wanted to test if they could manipulate Power Joe's feelings, and continued sending data to make Lua a reality. She was real, don't get me wrong, but she was anything but beautiful to anyone except Power Joe. In fact, she couldn't even speak, and didn't have any Super A.I.

Obviously, when told this, PJ didn't believe it, and took off with Lua in hopes to rescue her. Deckerd and the gang tried to talk PJ out of it, but he wasn't having any of it, saying that they'd just try to hurt Lua. After convincing him that they wouldn't, he eases up. But that ruins the fun for the BG sisters, doesn't it? They take Lua from him, and proceed to try and trick the Brave Police with their virtual reality. But with Lua's help, despite her not being who Power Joe thought she was, he was able to form Super Build Tiger and fire a blast at the ship, knocking it out of the sky and get the girls arrested. Everyone saw Lua for what she was, finally believing that PJ did think she was, in fact, beautiful.

And in a way, Power Joe was dumped, because his robot girlfriend did not actually have Super A.I. Still...he wanted to remember her the way the Bubble Gum sisters had projected her as...and still has fond feelings for the Lua he knew.

And that's where I'm taking him from!
*Personality:

To describe Power Joe in one word is impossible.

Loud. Passionate. Emotional.

Actually. It's fairly easy to sum up Power Joe's personality. When it comes to expressing himself, Power Joe has little to no qualms about showing how he feels. There isn't anything he'd say that he wouldn't say to your face, whether it be insult or compliment (Although the compliments are few and far in between). Don't get him wrong! He's not a JERK, per say, it's just he'll often tease or make fun before he'll be serious and give a compliment. Whether it's to lighten the mood or or not depends on the situation. He doesn't function well when times are tense, and if he does get serious, you know there's something going down.

Unfortunately, this makes Power Joe immensely prone to having a short temper. Out of the build team, he's one of the bots who will easily lose his temper and go after the one who has made it so. It makes him slightly irrational in thinking, finding almost absolutely nothing wrong in going for revenge or lashing out at people who don't seem to see things the same way he does. If it's his friends, he'll more than likely hold himself back at their request, but...let's just say his temper can be quite a troublesome aspect of his personality.

That isn't to say that Power Joe doesn't have a gentle side. He tends to be very friendly with those close to him, often bonding with children the easiest. Back home, he makes friends with Masaki, Kikomaru, and Emily, serving as sort of their 'robot' of the series. He's very protective of them, and sees them as his inner strength to fight for. In fact, Power Joe CAN be a rather emotional, sweet robot, he just keeps it buried underneath all his other emotions. It's the hardest for him to express so openly, but with the kids, he finds little to no problems with showing it.

Power Joe seems to be very laidback in terms of work. He'll often enjoy days off and attempt to sneak off to explore the world around him. He'll be one of the first to kick back and relax when given the chance to do so. But that doesn't mean he's lazy. To him? There's a bunch of things worth checking out, and apparently driving around town as a giant power shovel is next to normal. That being said, he's incredibly curious about the world, and doesn't seem to mind taking in information. He's interested in...whatever he's interested in, and sometimes work can just be a bore.

Sadly, Power Joe can also be a bit...abrasive. Sometimes he'll disregard other's feelings if he thinks his decision is better for them (to a degeree: He basically stole Yuuta to drive him to school. That sort of stuff). He'll roughhouse with Drill Boy, be the one to make snarky comments, and point out people's flaws. If...they're rude that is.

*Powers/Abilities:
  • It's no secret that Power Joe has...well, power. He's a giant robot and knows how to put that brute strength to work. While not as strong as Dumpson (who lifts weights for some reason), he can definitely hold his own among the other BPs. He can obviously support buildings and a great deal of weight, since he's on the Build Team. They're meant to build things, after all.

  • Power Joe is also very adept at Kung Fu, whether he took it from TV or had it downloaded into his systems. Either way, he's rather skilled at it. Or...as skilled a a robot could be. He gets a little TOO into it sometimes, making the over-exaggerated "HIYAHHH" sounds to go along with it. Yeah, he's a dork, we know.

  • Probably the most obvious power that Power Joe has is his ability to change into a vehicle. His vehicle mode is a giant power shovel, and it's his main transportation around Japan.

  • It's also noted that Power Joe is part of a greater machine--that is, the Build team can combine their efforts (like those Power Ranger things) and form one giant super mecha called Super Build Tiger. If he, McCrane, Dumpson, and Drill Boy combine, they form this robot and act as one entity (with separate minds, so they're still in control of their own thoughts). Why does it look like a tiger? Because it looks cool.

*Inventory:
The only thing that Power Joe will arrive with will be his weapons.
  • Nunchuks
    • Power Joe's nunchuks are his main weapon, or at least one of his favourites. They're pretty standard: just think of regular human nunchuks except made of metal and made for a giant robot. It doesn't mean they aren't effective, though! Power Joe is very skilled with them, and will often whip them out first thing.
  • Tonfa
    • His other weapon is his tonfa, which he's just as skilled with. Much like his nunchuks, it's large and metal and made for a giant robot. Blame Saejima for thinking this was a good idea.
*Starting Polarity: I have no idea. You guys choose for him!

Writing Samples
*First Person Sample:

[The feed clicks on, showing a rather vibrant yellow/black/green robot, tapping the screen curiously a few moments. Was it recording? Does the red light mean record? Well, it's something. Might as well try!]

Oi! Is anyone listening to this? I need some help! You see, I've lost someone, and I'm going to be in big trouble if I don't find them quickly! He's about this high-

[He holds his hand to about his lower chin level, perking an 'eyebrow'.]

Orange, red, white. Has a giant, stupid soccer ball on his chest. Answers to either Drill Boy or Doriko. He's flown off somewhere again, and I was told to keep an eye on him.

[Great job with that, idiot.]

Just tell me if you see him, okay?

*Third Person Sample:

Sometimes Power Joe still thought about her. About the robot that had won his 'heart'. Granted, she had been nothing but an illusion, but whenever he was alone, he'd look out at the cityscape, remembering the exact street where he had met her. Nothing had really made him feel that...lifted. At least, that was what he thought at first. He felt a little lost, losing someone he had felt so passionate about.

And then he remembered...

Masaki. Kikomaru. Emily.

They were something to be passionate about. True, not in the same way, but it was love, wasn't it? He had grown attached to them, visiting the park, watching them on the monkey bars and swings. They were something to protect, something worth fighting for. Just thinking that made a smile cross his face, putting a hand to the side of his helm and knocking it, almost playfully to himself. How could he have been so stupid?

There was more than one kind of love, and the one those children gave him...

It was irreplaceable.
